So why not was any town that believed, and benefited it its faith, except the people (of) Yunus? When they believed, We removed from them (the) punishment (of) the disgrace in the life of the world and We granted them enjoyment for a time.
For, alas, there has never yet been any community that attained to faith [in its entirety,] and thereupon benefited by its faith, except the people of Jonah. When they came to believe, We removed from them the suffering of disgrace [which otherwise would have befallen them even] in the life of this world, and allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them
If only there had been a community (of all those that were destroyed of old) that believed and profited by its belief as did the folk of Jonah! When they believed We drew off from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the world and gave them comfort for a while
Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while
If only there had been a society which believed ˹before seeing the torment˺ and, therefore, benefited from its belief, like the people of Jonah. When they believed, We lifted from them the torment of disgrace in this world and allowed them enjoyment for a while.
There had never been a single community that believed and benefited from its faith except for Jonah’s people. When they believed, We relieved them from the disgrace of suffering in the life of this world and allowed them to enjoy their life for a time.
Why was there no other people, save the people of Jonah, who should have believed so that their belief would have benefited them. Once they believed, We lifted the torment of shame from them during their worldly life and let them enjoy Our provision for a while
And wherefore was there not a town which should believe so that their belief should have profited them but the people of Yunus? When they believed, We removed from them the chastisement of disgrace in this world's life and We gave them provision till a time
And had there been a town that believed and profited from its belief other than the folk of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of degradation in this present life and gave them enjoyment for a while.
If only there had been a town which believed and whose faith had benefited it besides Jonah´s people. Once they believed, We lifted the torment of shame from them during worldly life and let them enjoy things for a while.
Was there any town that believed (after seeing the punishment), and their faith benefited them (from the punishment) except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the life of the world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while.
Why has not a single town believed and benefitted from its belief, other than the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and We granted them enjoyment for a while
No community has ever believed and benefited from their faith except the people of Jonah. When they believed, We lifted from them the torment of disgrace in this worldly life, and We permitted them to enjoy for a while.
If only there was one town that believed and benefited by its belief. Except for the people of Jonah. When they believed, We removed from them the suffering of disgrace in the worldly life, and We gave them comfort for a while
Then why there went not any habitation that might have Believed, (and) then her Faith might have benefited her — except the nation of Yunus. As they accepted Faith, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of this world and We provided them all provisions for a while
Was there any town which seeing the scourge, believed, and their belief profited them except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the disgraceful scourge and allowed them to enjoy their worldly life for a while
So, was there a town that believed (and) so its belief profited it, except the people of Yunus? As soon as they believed, We lifted off from them the torment of disgrace in the present life, (Literally: the lowly life, i.e., the life of this world) and We gave them enjoyment for a while
Why did no one except the people of Jonah believe (in their punishment before their death) so that they could have benefitted from their faith? When the people of Jonah believed, We saved them from a disgraceful torment in this life and provided them with the means of enjoyment for an appointed time
So, how is it that there never was a town, which could have believed and its belief would have been of benefit to it, except the people of Yunus? When they came to believe, We removed from them the punishment of humiliation in the worldly life and let them enjoy themselves for some time
For, alas, there has never yet been any community that attained belief, and benefited by its belief, except the nation of Jonah. When they embraced belief, We removed from them the suffering of disgrace, and let them enjoy their term. (37:147-148). (They used to live in humiliation at Nineveh. When they accepted the Divine Message, they prospered for about two centuries between 800-612 B.C. Then the Midyans conquered them. After the demise of Jonah, his people had been fast ignoring the Divine Word revealed to Jonah, and leaning towards the resurging priest class. The invaders set on fire the wonderful town of Nineveh. The spacious 60 mile wide, and beautiful town was reduced to ashes. The king of Assyria got himself burnt alive in the palace, and that was the end of the Assyrian dynasty)
Except the people of Yunus, no town benefited by their belief (after witnessing the punishment). We lifted the humiliating punishment from them in the life of this world; We had them enjoy the benefits for a while
Was there not a single township of people (among those We warned), which believed— So that its faith should have helped it— Except the people of Yunus (Jonah)? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of dishonor in the present life, and let them to enjoy (their lives) for a while
Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment for a time
If there was any town that benefited from its belief, then that would be the people of Jonah. When they believed, We removed from them the retribution of disgrace in this worldly life, and We let them enjoy until a time
If only a single town had believed and benefited from its belief! Only Jonah’s people did so, and when they believed, We relieved them of the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and let them enjoy life for a time
Why then was there not a township which believed, so that its faith might have profited it, except the people of Yunus! When they believed, We removed from them the torment of humiliation in the life of the world, and We let them enjoy for a season
Why has there been no habitation that believed and profited by their faith, except the people of Jonah? When they came to believe, We removed from them the affliction of shame in the world, and made them prosperous for a time
How is it that there has never been a city that had iman, whose iman then brought it benefit, except the people of Yunus? When they had iman We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world and We let them have enjoyment for a time.
If only there had been a community that believed (just when God’s decree of punishment was issued) and profited by their belief – there was none except the people of Jonah. When they came to believe We withdrew from them the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and We allowed them to enjoy life for a term
Why has there not been any town that might believe, so that its belief might benefit it, except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the life of this world, and We provided for them for a while
If only there were a community that had believed and profited from its faith. But none did except the people of Jonah. When they believed We removed from them the Torment of Disgrace in this world, and We gave them provision for a while
Why was there no town that believed and their belief benefited them except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed the humiliating punishment in this world’s life from them, and We let them enjoy for a while (in their lifetime).
Why was there not a single township that believed? Its faith would have profited it. Except the people of Jonah, when they believed, We removed from them the penalty of disgrace in the life of the present, and permitted them much enjoyment
What a pity not a single town believed and benefitted from its faith, except the people of Yunus. When they believed, We removed the looming punishment of disgrace from them in this life, and We granted them respite for a while.
Did it ever happen that the people of a town believed on seeing God`s chastisement and its believing profited them? (There is no such instance) except of the people of Yunus. When they believed We granted them reprieve from humiliating chastisement in this world, and We let them enjoy themselves for a while.
If there was any town that benefited from its belief, then that was the people of Jonah. When they believed, We removed from them the retribution of disgrace in this worldly life, and We let them enjoy until a time.
Why then was there no human settlement, other than the people of Jonah, which would believe and then their belief would prove profitable to them? When they (the people of Jonah) believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in this world's life and, for an appointed time, We made their lives comfortable and easy
Then why there has not been any town that believed so that its belief would have profited, but yes, the people of Yunus. When they believed. We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the world and allowed them to pull on for a time.
Any community that believes will surely be rewarded for believing. For example, the people of Jonah: when they believed, we relieved the humiliating retribution they had been suffering in this world, and we made them prosperous.
Why, was there never a village that believed and its belief benefited them? Except Jonah's nation, when they believed, We spared them from a degrading punishment in this life and We gave them enjoyment for awhile
And why was there not a town which believed, so that their belief should have profited them, but the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the chastisement of disgrace in this world’s life, and We gave them provision for a while
So where it not for a village/urban city (that) believed, so its faith/belief benefited it, except Jonah's/Yonis' nation, when they believed We removed/uncovered (relieved) from them the shameful/scandalous/disgraceful torture in the present world/worldly life, and We gave them long life/made they enjoy to a time
There was only one community, among the evil doers, who chose to repent and take advantage of the Lord’s mercy; and that was the people of Jonah. When they chose to answer My call, I removed their sufferings and let them enjoy their worldly lives
So if only had there been one dwelling * that believed and its belief would have benefited it - except the nation of Yunus (Jonah)! When they accepted faith, We removed the disgraceful punishment in the life of this world from them, and let them enjoy for a while. (* That was destroyed after being warned.
Why was there no town, which believed so that their belief should have profited them, save the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the present life, and WE gave them provision for a while
Then why has there not been any town, except (the town of) the people of Yunus (Jonah), that believed and its belief brought it profit? When (the people of Yunus [Jonah]) believed (just seeing the sign of torment before it was sent down), We removed from them the punishment of humiliation (even) in the life of the world and We let them avail the profit for a time
Why was there no community other than the people of Jonah who should have believed (as a whole), so that their belief would have done them good? (If it had been so it would have been much better), for when they (-the people of Jonah) believed, We spared them a humiliating punishment in the present life and We gave them provision (to avail themselves therefrom) for a time
Was there any town (community) that believed (after seeing the punishment), and its Faith (at that moment) saved it (from the punishment)? (The answer is none,) - except the people of Yoonus (Jonah); when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the (present) world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while
Why was there never a city that believed, and its belief profited it? -- Except the people of Jonah; when they believed, We removed from them the chastisement of degradation in this present life, and We gave unto them enjoyment for a time
And if it were not so, some city, among the many which have been destroyed, would have believed; and the faith of its inhabitants would have been of advantage unto them: But none of them believed, before the execution of their sentence, except the people of Jonas. When they believed, We delivered them from the punishment of shame in this world, and suffered them to enjoy their lives and possessions for a time
Were it not so, a city would have believed and its faith would have profited it. But (none did) except the people of Jonas; when they believed we removed from them the torment of disgrace in this world, and we gave them provision for a while
Were it otherwise, any city, had it believed, might have found its safety in its faith. But it was so, only with the people of JONAS. When they believed, we delivered them from the penalty of shame in this world, and provided for them for a time
Were it otherwise, every community, had it believed, would have profited from its faith. But it was so only with Jonah‘s people. When they believed, We spared them the punishment of disgrace in this nether life and suffered them to take their ease a while
If there was ever a town that believed and therefore its belief benefited it, that surely would be the people of Jonah, when they believed We removed from them the punishment of humiliation in the life of this world and We allowed them to enjoy for a [little] while.
If only there had been one community that adhered to Faith (before chastisement befell them), they would have reaped the fruits of their Faith like the people of Jonah: When they adhered to Faith, We removed from them the chastisement of humiliation in this worldly life and provided them with the means of enjoyment for a while.
And why was there not a town who believed and its belief benefited it? Except the people of Yunus (Jonah), when they believed We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in this world and gave them provision for a limited time.
Why did not a single community believe so that its faith would do it some good, except the people of Jonah? When they believed, we removed from them the penalty of disgrace in this world. We permitted them enjoyment for a while.
So if only there was one town that believed and benefited by its belief, besides the people of Jonah—when they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the Earlier Life and We gave them enjoyment for a while.
No town believed [when seeing the torment because of their disbelief] and whose faith had benefited it except Jonah's people. Once they believed, We lifted the torment of shame from them during worldly life and let them enjoy things for a while.
So, if only there was a village believed, so its faith benefited it. Except Jonah’s kinfolk. When they believed, We uncovered, about them, the disgrace torment in the Dunya life, and We let them enjoy till a while.
Had it believed, every community would have profited by its faith. It was so only with Jonah's people. When they believed, We lifted from them the suffering of disgrace in this life, and allowed them to enjoy things for a while.
If only the people of a single city believed and reaped the benefits of this faith! Except the people of Jonah (who felt the coming of the suffering after Jonah left them and collectively repented and believed)... When they believed, We lifted from them the suffering of worldly degradation and allowed them to benefit (from Our blessings) for a set period.
Why was there not a township which believed, so that their belief should have profited them, except the people of Jonah(Yunus)When they believed, We removed from them the Penalty of Ignominy in the life of the world, and gave them enjoyment for a while.
Wherefore Had any town conformed to Allah's will, inducing the people to piety profiting by it, but they did not, except the people of Yunus who no sooner did they conform to Allah's will than they were the recipients of His mercy. We cancelled their misfortunes which drew upon them worldly disgrace and shame and had greatly injured their name. And We granted them comfort and enjoyment and all that advantaged them of Allah's blessings in life, up to a predetermined point of time
Then why was there not a single city which believed so that their belief would have profited them, except the people of Yunus? When they believed We removed from them the punishment of disgrace from the life of this world and We gave them provision till a time.
And if it were not so, a city would have believed and its faith would have profited it. Except the people of Jonah; when they believed We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life, and We gave them provision for a time.
Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and p ermitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while
So why not was any town that believed, and benefited it its faith, except the people (of) Yunus? When they believed, We removed from them (the) punishment (of) the disgrace in the life of the world and We granted them enjoyment for a time
